Community Engagement at 17th Ave Project Meeting
A full room of neighbors, Workbench team members, and over a dozen from our congregation gathered at the Live Oak Community Center last Tuesday May 27th, 2025 to learn more about the proposed affordable housing at 2091 17th Avenue. Diana and Sibley from Workbench presented the current plan: 54 units, with 50% offered at Below Market Rate (100% AMI and under), and up to 30% potentially available to church-referred households within fair housing law and funding requirements. Our church also shared its story—rooted in decades of worship and service at the site, and continuing today through programs like Safe Parking. We introduced our vision for Green Village: housing that is sustainable, community-focused, and affordable. The meeting included heartfelt comments, concerns, and support. One neighbor noted, “If done responsibly, I think the project would be a fine addition to the affordable housing that is so needed in Santa Cruz County.” We’re grateful for the shared commitment to build not just homes, but a place of belonging.
