The United Women in Faith Book Group
The United Women in Faith Book Group invites you to join us on Friday, September 20th at 10:00 AM at Abbey Coffee Shop for a discussion of Linda Sarsour's powerful memoir, "We Are Not Here to Be Bystanders: A Memoir of Love and Resistance." In this compelling autobiography, Sarsour—a Palestinian Muslim American activist and one of the co-organizers of the 2017 Women's March—shares her journey from Brooklyn-born daughter of Palestinian immigrants to becoming one of the most visible activists in America. With a foreword by Harry Belafonte, the book weaves together her personal story of family, faith, and community with her experiences organizing for racial justice, fighting against police brutality, and standing up for marginalized communities across the country.
For those who prefer listening, the audiobook is available free through Hoopla Digital Library, and hearing Sarsour narrate her own story adds an intimate, personal dimension to her already powerful words. Her voice brings additional depth to stories of organizing in post-9/11 New York, building coalitions across difference, and learning that resistance is, fundamentally, an act of love. Whether you're drawn to memoirs, interested in social justice, or simply curious about the experiences of Muslim women in America, this book offers valuable perspectives on what it means to refuse to be a bystander in challenging times. If you need help obtaining a copy of the book, please contact Steph. Join us for what promises to be a thoughtful conversation about faith, activism, and the courage to speak up for justice.
